Wrong turn down Easy Street

So, I made a seriously wrong turn down Easy street this past week, Quilt Math gone wrong is where I ended up. Don't write notes out late at night, and follow the notes in the wee hours of the morning, not thinking of what you are actually cutting, just reading and cutting. We needed 64 flying geese with step 4, I have those. All of them, the right size and everything..................Times FOUR! Yeppers I made 256 flying geese instead. As I was sitting there sewing and sewing and sewing. Ran the spool out of thread, thought for a split second, that that was a little odd, because I had thought there was still plenty on there. Then sewing and sewing and sewing some more. Wow it sure is taking a long time to get these 64 geese done. I was using the no waste method (HAHAHAHA, well they won't really go to waste) So when I pulled the HUGE wad out from behind the machine to flip and sew the other side of the imaginary line, that is when it hit me. Something was really, really wrong. There were definitely more than 64 geese. I finished them all anyways, took way more than an hour and a half this time around, and more than one day at that.

Here is the pile waiting the last wing press.

Here they are sorted and stacked, should be 6 in each stack, instead there are 24.

I did manage to get the green square count right............I think!

I don't mind the extras, I will use them on the back or put them away for another project, my only thing is, will I have enough fabric now to finish the mystery. I don't think I have anything left in the stash in this color range, I might have to bring in other shades and values, because these were all pastel type, old school colors.
Because of that, I am sewing them together with those from step 2 yet, because I have to mix something up later on down the road. Might have me a flying geese border too if I make another wrong turn.

I did finish sewing the last seams on the Ohio stars for Orca Bay, went to sew the wing pieces together and couldn't find the HST's, I think I know why I don't have the wing sections done, another wrong turn. I have 1 inch finished ones, and I needed 2 inch finished ones or something like that............oops. So back to finding more fabrics for all of those too. Not my week for sewing, but working at the Post Office the week before Christmas will do that to you. I am going to bed, I hope I get some sleep. Maybe the fairies will decorate my tree for me tonight, I doubt it, but it is a nice thought.

Oh my .. did you use the "4 in one"-method and cuut 64 big squares?
maybe if you are lucky she wan't us to do more geese in that colourway in a later step. and yep there's always the back - though everything I plan for he back usually get'S thrown out the window as I don't like piecing backs and prefer backs that come in one piece.

You are too funny! That sounds like something I would do...especially working the wee hours of the morning!

Sounds like you now have a good reason to go fabric shopping!

Maybe you can alter the border and use them there. Or make another 3 identical quilts? No - not a good idea.Good luck!

Maybe you should put all those geese to work decorating your tree! I'm sure you'll find something to use your extra geese for. I see you are doing the 2013 New FO Challenge too. I ran across it while looking though the Easy Street blogs. Since I'm new to quilting, I guess I need to make some UFO's! LOL Happy Sewing!

Oh no! It sounds like you started a new quilt to me! I see some really pretty pastel stars with those extra geese. Hope you have better luck with the next step. Beautiful color way by the way.

Such a bummer, they will never go to waste, but still.....
Hope you find enough fabric to finish. Not long till Christmas, things should calm down then I hope.

Holy moly! It would have taken me days and days to finish all those geese. I'm sure you'll be able to use them. I just hope you have enough fabric left. Maybe you can go to the paint store and post some matching paint colors like Bonnie did, and we can check our stash for you. We could do a fabric swap of some sort. =)

When we were very small, about 1st or 2nd grade, Mom would decorate the house while we were in school and have the patio tree all ready to be decorated. She would put the light up outside and put all the decorations all over the house. She would then meet us on the way home from school. Mom would then tell us that Santa's Elves came and decorated the house! We would run home to check it all out. Andrew, Richard, and I always used to say, how come Santa's Elves don't come and help put the stuff away. One of the best memories as a small child.

Been there, done that more times than I care to admit too. I have a stash of old prints. If you care to let me know where to se them, I can send you some of the prints I recognise if you want more, happy to help out a fellow quilter, and it helps me clear out some old stuff too!

Hope you found enough fabric for the rest of the steps!

Funnily enough, you will actually need more of the green squares! I'm not sure of the exact extra number because just cut them as I went, but it might be 24.
