Scrap Happy Saturday - Pink

I did get a little bit done last Sunday, but haven't seen the sewing room since. I managed to sew these two blocks together, very quickly I might add. I will make more of these, I just tried two to start with to see if I liked them. I found the tutorial on Threadbias they call it Crossroads.
Then I got all these strips sewn together. They are stacked up in piles. Now to match them, subcut them and resew into 4 patches and/or 9 patch blocks.
Things at the Post Office are changing faster than anyone can keep up. All the people with knowledge are being let go, retiring or being moved somewhere else, and then the plan is to hire a bunch of part timers with no benefits whatsovever. I have been there for 19 years, and I know everything about the place, so I am being pulled in 20 directions at once. They had me working 10 hours everyday this week (even though I am NOT on the OT list) Trying to run two different PO's. I slept last night for 12 hours, I was exhausted. Good news though the one PO I was at, Kathy is finally retiring, and that job is coming open. I have been waiting for this day for 19 years now. I am hoping I get that job. I will be working at the PO on the Air Force base, better class of people, and no co-workers to clean up after and do half their jobs on a daily basis. It will be me, and only me!!! Also on slow days I will have down time, I will be able to take my breaks ( more downtime) and I won't be able to go home for lunch anymore (more downtime) So now I guess I am going to have to find me some hand work to do, or prep my DJ's for machine, hand stitch those that need it. I will have LOTS of time to do this now. They are even building a new PO, so once I move, I will probably even take an extra machine there, and park it in the corner for break and lunchtimes. So now I need to find time to do some prepping!!! Looking forward to it until retirement!
For all you hand workers out there (Angela, Judy) any pointers for me on needles, thread etc for handwork???

My best tip on handwork is to check out the freezer paper on the front and gluestick tutorial at fabrictherapy.blogspot.com. I really like silk thread for applique too, I just got a nice assortment of YLI 100 wt. It is like sewing with hair and the stitches just disappear. As long as something is prepped and ready to go, the stitching part is so easy and relaxing. I hope everything works out with the job. Workloads are going up and benefits are going down everywhere you look. I keep hoping the pendulum will swing back soon.

Good luck on the job. I just started an orange peel project - hand applique. Silk thread works great. Template is from the Remembering Adelia book. Prep work is the key - as long as things are prepped you can get a lot done. Another options is a quilt as you go - hand quilting single blocks and then putting them together. Good luck

Your pink Crossroads blocks look great! Here's hoping you get the job :*) It seems there's a lot of people with experience losing their jobs so companies don't have to pay benefits. So sad!!!

Great block for the RSC13. I was not sure of the block name - Crossroads. I was thinking links as it makes me think of chain links. Hope you do get the job change. Sounds good.

Wow, new job I pray you get it! That would be so great and to be able to maybe bring a machine even better. I love the color combo in your blocks. Get yourself some great quilting needles, thimbles, quilting thread hoop or not...some people use them some do not....quilting pins or a gadget that I recently bought that is a hand gun places plastic through to hold quilt in place while you quilt...Keep us informed about the job..
